Lestat is six feet tall. He has thick blond hair that is not quite shoulder length, and rather curly, which appears white under fluorescent light. His eyes are gray, but they absorb the colors blue or violet easily from surfaces around them. And he has a fairly short narrow nose, and a mouth that is well shaped but just a little too big for his face. It can look very mean, or extremely generous, his mouth. It always looks sensual. His vampire nature reveals itself in extremely white and highly reflective skin that has to be powdered down for cameras of any kind. And if he's starved for blood he look like a perfect horrorskin shrunken, veins like ropes over the contours of his bones. And the only consistent indication that he is not human is his fingernails. It's the same with all vampires. Their fingernails look like glass. VAMPIRES IN MYTH AND HISTORYby Beverley RichardsonHowever, the vampires we are familiar with today, although mutated by fiction and film, are largely based on Eastern European myths. The vampire myths of Europe originated in the far East, and were transported from places like China, Tibet and India with the trade caravans along the silk route to the Mediterranean. Here they spread out along the Black Sea coast to Greece, the Balkans and of course the Carpathian mountains, including Hungary and Transylvania. Our modern concept of the vampire still retains threads, such as blood drinking, return from death, preying on humans at night, etc in common with the Eastern European myths. However many things we are familiar with; the wearing of evening clothes, capes with tall collars, turning into bats, etc are much more recent inventions. On the other hand, many features of the old myths such as the placing of millet or poppy seeds at the gravesite in order to keep the vampire occupied all night counting seeds rather than preying on relatives, have all but disappeared from modern fiction and film. Even among the Eastern European countries there is a large variety of vampires. |

February: Lestat de Lioncourt
Lestat de Lioncourt was born in the year 1768 in Auvergne ,France. He was the youngest of three sons although his mother had given birth to four other boys and one girl -none of whom survived childhood. His father was the Marquis and also was blind. Being the youngest of three Lestat had no prospects as any land or money that his father left behind after he died would likely go to his eldest brother, Augustin, and his family. At the age of 12 Lestat was being educated in a monestary and decided he wished to enter the order. Of course his family completely dismissed the idea and dragged him away from the monestary. When Lestat reached the age of 16 a band of Italian actors came to the village performing a play which involved 2 lovers-Isabella and Lelio. Lestat absolutley adored the play and took on the part of Lelio and loved performing so much he decided to leave with the players when they left the next day. Unfortunately when he awoke the next day he found his brothers waiting for him and all the players gone.
Lestat gets a job in a theatre in Paris but not as an actor but more as a cleaner or assistant. Finally months later he is given the chance to go on stage and then offered a job as a proffesional actor. Lestat proves very popular with both the audiences and the critics who describe him as "the blond-haired rogue who steals the hearts of the ladies in the third and fourth acts." Lestats life is going perfectly for him and he is completely happy until he starts to feel as though someone is watching him and sees a mysterious white face in his audience. Lestat also has the feeling that this man knows about the wolves but cannot explain the feeling. Lestat is kidnapped and is called "Wolfkiller" by the one who has him. Lestat is held prisoner until his kidnapper,Magnus, decides to turn him into a vampire. Note: Although Lestat is technically mortal in Tale of the Body Thief, that part of his life will be written in his immortal biography so as to keep things in chronological order.
